Dé80s (Deities)

Dé80s (deities) is an electro pop project inspired by Ancient Greek myths.

The stories are ancient yet utterly modern in their essence, which is to say, timeless.

I seek to explore fresh perspectives: for instance, “Tame Me” is the story of the Minotaur, as seen from the Minotaur’s point of view. Here I take a psychoanalytic interpretation of the Minotaur being Theseus’s own Shadow. When the man kills the beast, he permanently loses his own humanity.

Hephaestos is rejected by his mother Hera, yet becomes good, strong, courageous, hard-working, and capable of the most amazing metal creations. He is the ultimate sublimator and his song is called “Fire & Gold,” since he turns rocks into gold: “He is the Fire / You are the Gold.”

Orpheus makes the mistake of taking Hades’s word too lightly: despite being warned not to, Orpheus turns around to see if his love Eurydice is behind him, and she returns forever to the world of the Dead. In “Death Never Lies (Too Late for Love)” his foolishness gets gently chastised… his is a difficult mistake to come to terms with, even for an outsider.

The other songs on the album are “Only the Sky” which is about Icarus, as would be spoken by Daedalus; “Rays of the Sun” an ode of admiration and devotion to the Sun, Helios; “Rainmaker” is about the Hyades who cry their brother’s death from the night sky after Zeus makes them into stars; “Turn My Lover Into a River” is Galatea’s song to Zeus after her lover is crushed to death by jealous Cyclops.

Below are rough mixes of three songs from the album. Dé80s is scheduled to be published in January 2026.

Hephaestos was flung from Mount Olympus by his mother Hera because she found him ugly. He survives and becomes a master metal worker, living in the heat and lava of a volcano.

“Left to die

He woke and rose from the black sand

He walked into the Earth

And became Fire”

The nymphs Hyades cannot stop crying the killing of their brother by a Lion. Zeus transforms them into stars. Now they guide sailors through the winter months, their tears fall as rain.

“You fall as rain

And baby you’re brave

You become liquid light

Your are the starry night”

Every day Helios rides across the sky on his golden chariot. He radiates light and warmth over the land and the sea.

“You burn

Steadfast

I rise to catch

Rays of the Sun”
